[Review] The Au Pair

Square

tl;dr Review:

While quite depressing at times, it’s a captivating mystery that keeps you guessing.

Full Review:

Though I’ve been on a bit of a thriller/mystery kick over the last few weeks of this pandemic, I found this one to be quite original in it’s overall story and outcome.

I did have some issues with the characters though as I disliked the descriptions of the protagonist by her brothers as “always being dramatic.” Plus, many of the lead characters were honestly really self absorbed. However, I did enjoy the familial bond that was evident throughout.

It’s definitely not a book that fills you with warm fuzzies about families though. While you understand some of the choices, you also realize the ways in which families can be ridiculously complicated.

Yet it is a story line that I haven’t encountered before and the mystery adds to the excitement.

I did figure out parts of the ending as I was closing in on it, but it compelled me to keep reading to fully understand the “why” behind it all.

If you’re seeking a story of love, loss, and family with a big mystery thrown in, then this is the book you should read.

I give it four out of five thumbs up.
